The initial consultation and treatment can take up to 60 minutes. The practitioner will ask plenty of questions, gathering vital information relating to your condition, perform the treatment, and answer any questions that you may have. Subsequent consultations are generally between 30 and 45 minutes.

During your first consultation, your TCM practitioner will make thorough enquiries about your presenting signs and symptoms. Depending on your health issues broader questions may also be asked about your general health, lifestyle, eating, digestion and sleeping habits, among other things. For pain or musculo-skeletal injuries palpation and range of motion testing may be warranted. Your pulse may be felt at each wrist, the colour and shape of your tongue inspected, and your overall constitution taken into consideration. This information is then used to diagnose the body’s pattern of disharmony.  Following this your practitioner will formulate an appropriate individual treatment strategy.

After a differential diagnosis, acupuncture and/or herbal medicine will be prescribed, which is used to restore healthy bodily functions and return your body to a natural state of balance. Other techniques may also be used, which all have the purpose of improving your underlying disharmony, leading to long term sustainable health.
